David Kersey
An Ames man was recently sentenced to probation for a November incident at Wild Rose Casino in Jefferson.
According to court documents, 50-year-old David Kersey received a deferred judgment for a Class D Felony for gambling – false claim of winnings and was sentenced to two years of probation with Boone and Greene County Probation Services.
The charge stemmed from an incident that was investigated by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation on November 7, 2021. Kersey was registered with the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission’s Voluntary Self-Exclusion program, which prohibits someone from claiming, collecting, taking money or anything of value from sports wagering while at any of the state-ran casinos. This was valid until January of 2024.
Kersey agreed to split the winnings with 67-year-old Robert Montgomery of Grand Junction, after Montgomery placed five sports wagers on November 7th. Kersey was found to have violated the IRGC program because he didn’t forfeit any of the winnings that he accepted.
Court documents show that Kersey had the other charges, including two additional Class D Felonies for gambling – false claim of winnings and an aggravated misdemeanor for third degree theft dismissed. He was also ordered to pay over $1,000 in fines and victim restitution.
