The Iowa House recently voted against a proposal that would ban employers, schools, businesses and government entities from mandating a COVID-19 vaccine.
House District 20 Representative Ray Sorensen says they have been working hard to provide protection for those that are facing discrimination and this bill would do that. He explains this was a tough bill to get 51 votes on.
“Some folks voted no because it didn’t go far enough and some people felt it went too far and you know with that spectrum of opinions it’s hard to get a census.”
Those opposing this bill say it needs to add the ban of every vaccine, not just the COVID-19 vaccine. Sorensen says he does question this with this argument.
“Why are we so heavily focused on this one disease and this one respiratory disease when we let all the other respiratory diseases run amok? I don’t know. Seemed a little fishy.”
This bill would fine entities that fire their employees for not adhering to vaccine mandates $50,000.
