Multiple severe weather warnings came through portions of the Raccoon Valley Radio-listening area Tuesday evening.
The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for western Greene County from 8:59-10pm. A second thunderstorm warning was then issued for southwestern Greene County and western Guthrie County from 9:20-9:45pm. The primary hazards with those two warnings were more than 58 miles per hour winds. Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf only reported high winds associated with Guthrie County’s thunderstorm warning.
Then at 9:45pm a tornado warning was issued for northwestern Greene County. Acting Greene County Emergency Management Coordinator and County Sheriff Jack Williams activated severe weather sirens for Churdan, Scranton and Jefferson while the tornado warning was in effect until 10pm. The final thunderstorm warning was then issued for all of Greene County from 9:46-10:15pm.
Williams added that trained weather spotters were deployed across the county during all of the warnings and there were no immediate reports of damage, nor any confirmed tornadoes in the county.
There were four Raccoon Valley Radio staff, Weatherology meteorologists, along with emergency management coordinators for Adair, Guthrie and Greene counties that were involved in our Severe Weather Action Team coverage. Raccoon Valley Radio provides live coverage of severe weather anytime there is a thunderstorm or tornado warning issued for Greene, Dallas and Guthrie counties.
