About 40 people attended an open house for a business that opened a new location in Jefferson Wednesday.

Heartland Bank held its ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate its permanent location in the Greene County Development Corporation West Business Park along Highway 4. Business Development Officer Scott Weber introduced his staff and said the Jefferson location is the fifth banking location Heartland has since its inception in 1901 with its first location in Somers, Iowa. The bank features a drive-thru, night dropbox and a drive-up ATM machine.

Weber talked about his initial reaction to how the new building turned out.

“I think it turned out amazing. When you look at things on a sheet of paper and try to envision it, you think it looks good. But now that it’s completed and finalized we couldn’t be happier with the end result that we got out of this. So again, it turned out wonderful.”

The bank first opened at 200 East State Street in February 2020 as a temporary location, before the groundbreaking for their new facility took place this past May. Heartland Bank President and CEO Kevin Black described how they are committed to Jefferson with building the new 4,500-square foot facility.

“Well I think it says who we are. We know that it’s a leap of faith to do something like this, but again we’re impressed with the leadership of the Jefferson community. We also know that if we’ve got the right team assembled, good things happen. And I think we’re on a good start for that.”

Heartland’s hours of operation are 8am-4pm Monday-Friday and the drive-thru is open from 8am-5pm Monday-Friday. A grand opening will happen sometime later this year.
