An Adel man has been charged with multiple counts of attempted murder from a recent fire that occurred near Minburn.
According to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, 40-year-old Jason Weigum of Adel was recently released from Mercy Hospital in Des Moines and was immediately arrested on a warrant for two Class B Felonies for attempted murder, a Class B Felony for first degree arson, a Class C Felony for first degree criminal mischief and a misdemeanor for obstruction of emergency communications from an incident that occurred this past Sunday.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the Minburn and Dallas Center Fire Departments, deputies and Dallas EMS responded to the incident at 7:50 p.m. this past Sunday at 22760 Laredo Trail, southwest of Minburn. The Sheriff’s Office says they responded to a call that someone had poured gasoline inside the house and lit it on fire. There were three occupants that were able to get out of the home. Gerard Thompson and Neil O’Sullivan also reside at 22760 Laredo Trail and were present for the incident. Thompson is still receiving care at the Burn Treatment Center in Iowa City for second and third degree burns he received in the fire.
The main level of the residence was damaged and there was significant smoke damage throughout the home.
