red-flag-warning-map-2

The Raccoon Valley Radio listening area will be dealing with strong winds today, which doesn’t make for ideal weather conditions to do open burning.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for Greene, Dallas and Guthrie counties and it will be in effect from noon to 9pm today. There will be sustainable winds of 25 to 35 miles per hour, gusting as high as 55 mph later today. Additionally, humidity is expected to drop to 35 percent or lower, making conditions even drier.

According to the National Weather Service, Greene, Dallas and Guthrie counties are listed in the “extreme” category on the Iowa Grassland Fire Danger Index for today. A Red Flag Warning means there are critical fire weather conditions and if burning happens, it can get out of control quickly.
