U.S. Congresswoman Cindy Axne
A US congresswomen weighs in on President Joe Biden signing an executive order to fix a family glitch that is a part of the Affordable Care Act.
Third Congressional District Representative Cindy Axne says that the glitch refers to when certain workers are excluded from insurance premium subsidies under ACA due to being deemed to have affordable coverage through their employer. She says affordability of employer sponsored insurance is determined based on the employees’ cost for their own coverage and does not factor in their family, which is what she is advocating for.
“This would calculate the family cost. And therefore, if the employer can’t provide it at a lower cost than that for your family, you get subsidies for the ACA if you qualify, which just fixes that.”
Axne adds this would lower healthcare costs for a million Americans and 200,000 people will be able to get insurance that they couldn’t get previously.
