The Perry School Board met Monday in regular session.

The meeting started with a public hearing for the 2022-23 school year budget. Following the hearing, the Board approved the budget with an overall tax levy rate of $19.45 per $1,000 of property valuation. This will be a reduction of $0.54 compared to the current fiscal year and the fifth consecutive year the tax levy has been decreasing.

Next, the Board approved adding Esports as an extracurricular activity. Esports is competitive gaming with various video games that are played on a computer. The plans are to start with 20 students initially with practices and games to take place this fall. A sponsor for the activity has yet to be hired. 

Next, the Board heard about a solar panel project proposal from Red Lion Renewables, and the Board took no action following the presentation. The Board also heard an update about the kitchen remodel project at the elementary school. The plans are to expand to include additional square footage for a prep area as well as the serving area of the kitchen. No action was taken by the Board following the report.

It was also noted during open forum that the Perry High School Girls Track Team is celebrating 50 years since they were first established in April of 1972. 

Other items the Board approved included an agreement with Morningside University for a teacher education clinical experience placements for next school year, and a Timberline billing service agreement as presented.
