Nominations are being sought for an annual award to recognize nurses at Greene County Medical Center.
The DAISY Award started in 1999 when an illness took the life of Patrick Barnes and his family began a foundation to honor the nursing staff that took care of him in his final weeks. Greene County Medical Center Chief Nursing Officer Susan Moore says the DAISY Award started at the medical center in 2014. She talks about the nominations.
“Any nurse that is employed at Greene County Medical Center is eligible for this award. It could be in the outpatient setting, it could be in the acute setting, emergency room, surgery area, and those nurses could be nominated by patients or their families.”
The deadline to submit a nomination is by April 15th. Moore explains what happens to those nominations.
“So we collect all those (nominations) and then we have a committee who meets to review the redacted nominations. So we want anyone who has had care here to have the opportunity to nominate nurses as they saw fit.”
The award ceremony will be on May 6th at 10:30am at the main lobby of the medical center and the public is invited to attend. Nomination forms can be found by clicking the link below or paper copies are available at the medical center.
