Sites for the May 12 State Qualifying Coed Track & Field Meets have been announced by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and the Iowa High School Athletic Association. Qualifiers from these meets advance to the May 19-20-21 Coed State Meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

Only the sites are known at this time and it could be awhile before Greene County in Class 2A and Paton-Churdan in 1A know their actual State Qualifying destinations. Some years geography gives coaches, athletes, and fans a pretty good idea where their teams will travel for the postseason, but this isn’t one of those years, especially for the Rams. The 2A host sties are Cherokee, Eddyville, Grundy Center, Monticello, Osage, Monroe, Holstein, and Treynor. None of those are anywhere close to Jefferson.

One-way driving distance listed online from Jefferson to Holstein is 91 miles, to Monroe is 99 miles, to both Grundy Center and Cherokee is 109 miles, 118 miles to Treynor, and it’s even farther to the other three locations.

For P-C, the closest two State Qualifying locations are Audubon at 56 miles and Earlham at 73 miles.
