The Perry City Council recently approved the ban of consumer fireworks and a local police chief discusses how enforcement could go.
The Council approved the ban of consumer fireworks at a meeting earlier this year and Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn says one of the biggest ways they can help prevent the violation of the ordinance banning fireworks will be education.
“We need to get everyone educated that they are no longer to be used within the city limits at any time throughout the year. The only time that they can be used is through a permit process through the city and those are for large display fireworks and you’d have to be permitted and bonded and have the insurance to put on a show like that.”
Vaughn tells Raccoon Valley Radio another aspect of the enforcement will be putting up signage around town in the time leading up for the Fourth of July fireworks season. Vaughn says fireworks will still be allowed to be sold within the City due to state law.
“During that time when they start selling the fireworks we are going to be out there and addressing that issue with people and writing citations for that.”
