Time is running out to fill out an application for those who may still need energy assistance as April is the last month to fill out an application.

The Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) applications are still currently being accepted for income-eligible utility customers.

The annual application period continues until April 30th. The program is designed to help low-income homeowners and renters pay a portion of their primary home heating costs through a one-time payment to the heating fuel or utility vendor.

Qualified applicants who are the head of the household are protected by Iowa law from having their natural gas or electric service disconnected from November 1st to April 30th but are encouraged to pay toward their bills to avoid debt and potential disconnection in the spring.
