Sweet pies made their way into the Raccoon Valley Radio studios in Perry Wednesday for a historically successful Live Radio Pie Auction.

The pie auction with Raccoon Valley Radio and the Perry Chamber of Commerce raised $11,000 across 21 pies that received bids. The auction was broadcasted live over 94.3, 99.7FM and 1310AM KDLS for people to tune in live and the event was also livestreamed on Facebook with Raccoon Valley Radio’s own Shawn Kinney emceeing the event.

Chamber Director Lynsi Pasutti says the single most raised for one dessert was baked by J.P. Hulgan and the winning bid was Lisa Widick at $1,750.

“A huge thank you to all of the bakers, all of the bidders. A lot of them are local businesses that took part in the auction as well as everyone that tuned in for a little bit of entertainment and then even just to up bid as well.”

There were plenty of people who came out to the Raccoon Valley Radio studios in Perry to assist with bids and taking phone calls including Larry Vodenik with Hy-Vee who helped with the phones throughout the event. Vodenik says there were plenty of people and businesses in the community who helped out to make the radio pie auction a success.

“I just think it was fantastic. I was on the phone and some of these people it exceeded what they had expected to spend but I want to say thank you to everybody that called in and made this a success. It was great.”

Pasutti says between the Live Radio Pie Auction and the Big Boom Bracket Battle $15,338 has been raised so far for the Fourth of July celebration fireworks.
