National Public Health Week is officially off and running and it’s time to look at what the local health department does.
April 4th-10th is National Public Health Week and Dallas County Health Department Community Health Administrator Abigail Chihak says there are various pieces to the public health mission including protecting against hazards to health, passing policies, working to prevent injury and disease among other things.
“Public health is really linked to everything and each resident has a role to play. Our department has nine staff that serve all 100,000 people in the county. At its core there’s really three key components to our mission and ten essential services that are all centered around health equity.”
Chichak tells Raccoon Valley Radio that she encourages anyone who is interested in learning more about public health to visit the Dallas County Health Department website or the social media channels including Facebook and Instagram.
