Cybersecurity has become a big topic for one state representative.
House District 20 Representative Ray Sorensen says his bill passed the House that has to do with consumer data privacy and is meant to give people the ability to opt out of data collection and targeted advertisements on the internet. Sorensen explains the process of how this piece of legislation would work.
“Their personal data has been taken against their wishes, they can opt to say, ‘Hey, I want that deleted.’ And if the controller or person in control of the data refuses, they have to state why they’re refusing. And then the recourse then would follow to the AG’s office or the Attorney General’s office.”
Sorensen explains this bill would make it known to the controller and consumer to what the law is surrounding their personal data. The bill will head to the Senate floor for a vote and if it passes it will go into law January 1, 2024.
