Greene County and Des Moines Hoover met in non-conference girls’ high school soccer Monday evening on the Huskies’ home field with the home team winning 4-0. The Huskies improved to 2-0 while the Rams fell to 0-2 and both losses were by shut out.
Maribel Hernandez, head coach of the Rams, told Raccoon Valley Radio the score was 2-0 at halftime. “Katrina Heupel had two shots on goal and Graci Collin had 18 saves. The girls fought hard from start to finish in each half. With two of our girls unable to play full-time, we needed the whole team to step up and they did their best. Our goals for the game were to have a strong defense and move the ball forward. Our defense contested each shot and our midfielders and forwards moved the ball the best we could. We obviously have some skills we need to work on in practice this week. Hopefully, we can come back together with all players with a positive mindset against Carroll later this week. Overall, we did a great job. We fought until the end against experienced Hoover players.”
The loss was the 23rd in a row for the Greene County program dating back to 2019. The Rams host Carroll High on Thursday in Grand Junction with the varsity playing at 5:30 p.m.
