After having it’s Early Bird track & field meet cancelled on Monday due to cold and windy conditions, Coach Chad Morton’s Greene County High School boys opened the season at Winterset on Friday. The Rams finished eighth among 16 teams and scored 49 points. ADM (Adel) won the event with 122 points and North Polk (Alleman) was second at 119.5.
The Rams placed first twice, both in individual events. Senior Jackson Morton won the 110 meter high hurdles in 15.20 seconds and junior Jesse Miller was first in the discus throw at 128′ 8″. Other high finishes for the Rams were second place in the long jump from senior Bryce Stalder at 19′ 11-1/2″, second from the shuttle hurdle relay of seniors Landyn Venteicher, Stalder, Nate Black, and Morton in 1:03.39, and Black was third in the high jump at 5′ 10″.
Head coach Chad Morton was happy the Rams were able to begin the outdoor season. He added the Winterset meet provides high level competition from schools ranging in size from 3A, 2A, and 1A. The Rams were missing a couple of key performers due to injury and illness, but still competed well.
The Greene County girls and boys head to Panora on Tuesday for the Kip Janvrin Panorama Relays.
