On average Americans spend about seven hours behind an electronic screen and an expert says this is causing health problems.
Central Iowa Family Eyecare Doctor Kyle Stalder says spending too much time behind a screen can cause Digital Eye Strain. Stalder tells Raccoon Valley Radio the components of the condition.
“Two of the biggest components of that Digital Eye Strain are dry eyes and also a glare component to that. And the longer that we do spend on those devices, the more our eyes can have a tendency to dry out. The more we can have a tendency to just develop that kind of a dull headache.”
He says the best remedy for this strain is called the “20-20-20 rule,” which means people looking at a device for more than 20 minutes needs to take a 20 second break and look at an object that’s 20 feet away.
