The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and the United States Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service have confirmed a  positive case of a highly pathogenic influenza disease in Guthrie County.

The Avian Flu has been found in a commercial layer flock in the county. The UDSA is encouraging flock owners to report sick birds or unusual deaths to the state or federal officials and prevent contact between their birds and wild birds.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the recent Avian Flu detections in birds do not present an immediate public health concern and there has been no reported cases in humans that have been detected in the United States. It remains safe to eat poultry products.
