A Churdan man was additionally charged from an ongoing investigation.
According to court documents, 58-year-old Richard Sabus was charged with a Class C Felony for first degree theft. Court documents show that a report was submitted to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office from a genetic engineer of an agriculture company where about 90 corn seeds were seized from a warrant that were taken from the same grain bin that Sabus owned.
The results were that around 61-percent of the grain bin contained corn seeds that were allegedly stolen from the victim. A seizure warrant was then issued where almost 3,000 bushels of corn were seized from Sabus’ bin, with the estimated value of $13,000.
The investigation began on October 22, 2021 where Sabus was initially charged with a Class D Felony for second degree theft, after he allegedly stole $3,556 in soybeans and $3,125 for 500 bushels of corn from the same victim.
Sabus was arrested last week on the new charge and was booked into the Greene County Jail. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
