The turnout was good for a Guthrie County event that happened on Saturday morning.
The Guthrie County ISU Extension Office put on the Explore Guthrie County STEM Fest at the Stuart Elementary where many families took their children and had fun with the interactive activities.
There were 18 educational activities that included learning about light and pressure with the Science Center of Iowa, tractor cab simulator with Guthrie County Farm Bureau, magnetics with Iowa PBS, K9 unit with the Stuart Police Department and much more. Stuart Elementary Principal Drew Russell said it was awesome seeing students outside of the classroom having fun while learning.
“They’re learning about things that are going on in their community. We’ve got people (at STEM Fest) talking about wind turbines, ethanol. Our police department is here with their K-9 unit. So it’s just really cool to see and kids can get a good idea of what’s going on in the community. And possibly, you know, what they can get into is as far as the career when they’re older.
