A reminder to Greene County landowners, property tax payments are due soon.
Greene County Treasurer Katlynn Mechaelsen tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the second half of property taxes are due by March 31st to avoid a 1.5-percent monthly penalty that begins on April 1st. She points out there are a variety of ways people can pay their property taxes, including through your banks’ escrow account, as well as cash, check or debit card at the treasurer’s office. You can also drop off your payment via the drop box located on the east side of the Greene County Courthouse or via payment box right outside of the treasurer’s office.
Additionally, Mechaelsen says payments can also be made online at IowaTreasurers.org. She notes you choose “Greene County” and enter your name or address, add your taxes to your online shopping cart and checkout like you would if you are purchasing something online.
Mechaelsen points out as long as someone doesn’t have a tax sale on their property, her office will accept partial payments. However, property taxes must be paid in full by June 15th to avoid the property being sold at the annual tax sale.
