A Greene County native recently competed in a culinary contest in which his team received high marks.

Avery Bardole is a student at Iowa Central Community College and his team placed second at the Student Taste Contest, hosted by the Iowa Pork Producers Association. The contest consisted of 11 teams from five Iowa universities and colleges where the participants had to use ground pork to come up with the most creative and tastiest dishes.

Bardole’s team made pork kebabs with peppers and onions that were served on a garlic flatbread with pickled vegetable salad and cilantro-lime yogurt sauce. Bardole, along with three other teammates each received $50 from IPPA and Iowa Central received an additional $500. Another team from Iowa Central also claimed first place and each of the four team members received $100 and the community college also received $750. Kirkwood Community College earned third place.

The contest took place earlier this month at the Iowa Culinary Institute on the Des Moines Area Community College campus in Ankeny.
