Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center High School traveled to Fort Dodge last weekend for the Iowa Science and Engineering Fair and four students came home with some hardware.
Haley Cose’s project called, “Recreating Parasaurolophus Resonation Chambers,” received four awards in the Dinosaur Vocalization category. Kelsey Carlson was given two awards for her project called, “What Food Helps a Venus Flytrap Grow?” in the Plant Science category. Justin Reinhart participated in the category of Social Media Pandemic and his project called, “Analyzing the Impact of Social Media on Brain Waves,” which also won four awards. Kierston Knobbe won seven awards at the fair with her project called, “Creating a Water Filtration and Sanitation Method For Developing Countries from the category of Turbid or Not Turbid?”
Those four students will also travel to Ames to compete in the Iowa State Science Fair on March 24th for a chance to win more awards and to participate at the International Science Fair. To see a full list of the awards find the information below.
Haley Cose (Dinosaur Vocalization: Recreating Parasaurolophus Resonating Chambers ): $250 scholarship to Iowa Central Community College, the Exceptional Genius Olyamid award that allows her to compete in another competition that is normally hosted in New York but due to COVID restrictions it will be held virtual, United States Air Force Certificate of Achievement, Student Award of Geoscience Excellence
Kelsey Carlson (What Food Helps a Venus Flytrap Grow?): Western Iowa Science and Engineering Fair in Plant Science Category, United States Air Force Certificate of Achievement, and Certificate of Award from the American Psychological Association for achievement in research in psychological science.
Justin Reinhart (Social Media Pandemic: Analyzing the Impact of Social Media on Brain Waves): Certificate of Award from the American Psychological Association for achievement in research in psychological science, Western Iowa Science and Engineering Fair in Behavioral and Social Science Category, United States Air Force Certificate of Achievement, and $250 Scholarship to Iowa Central Community College.
Kiersten Knobbe (Turbid or Not Turbid? That is the Question: Creating a Water Filtration and Sanitation Method For Developing Countries): The United States Army Certificate of Achievement, NOAA’s 2022 Taking the Pulse of the Planet Award, Regional Water Prize Award for water related research (this will allow her to enter another competition), $250 scholarship to Iowa Central Community College, the Yale Science & Engineering Association Inc for Most Outstanding Exhibit in Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics,
Lastly, Kiersten was selected as a Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair 2022 Finalist! Which means that she won an all expenses paid trip to compete at the International Science and Engineering Fair in Atlanta, Georgia! As the sponsor that took them I will attend with her with all of my expenses paid as well!
