A Saturday afternoon fire in Grand Junction totals a home.

Grand Junction Fire Chief Bret Kersey tells Raccoon Valley Radio, Grand Junction, Jefferson, Paton and Ogden fire departments responded at 4:58pm to the fire at 1005 Main Street East. He says when they first arrived on scene, the second story of the three story home was fully engulfed in flames. He notes they tried to make entry into the home, but it was deemed unsafe and so they did an exterior attack.

Kersey says the homeowner, Deb McAllister and her service animal, were not home at the time of the fire and no one was hurt during the incident. Kersey believes the cause of the fire to be from a space heater from a second story bedroom. The fire is believed to be accidental in nature and the home is a total loss.

Kersey adds, fire crews were on scene for 4.5 hours and the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and Greene County Ambulance assisted at the scene.
