The candidates for national and state offices in Iowa were recently released.

According to the Iowa Secretary of State’s Office, there is only one June Primary Election race for a state house seat in the Raccoon Valley Radio coverage area. The new Iowa House District 28, which encompasses the cities of Adel, Van Meter, Waukee and West Des Moines, has two Democrats that will face off in the primary election with Sonya Heitshusen of West Des Moines and Tom Walton of Waukee. Former US Representative and Republican David Young of Van Meter is the lone Republican candidate.

Other state house and senate races are unopposed for the primary and will appear on the ballot in the November midterm elections. Senate District 14, which includes Adel and Dallas Center in Dallas County, with Republican Jake Chapman of Adel and Democrat Sarah Trone Garriott of West Des Moines. 

House District 47, which includes all of Greene and Guthrie counties, along with Perry in Dallas County, with Republican Carter Nordman of Adel and Democrat Gary Clayton Overla of Dallas Center. House District 23, encompasses Dexter and Redfield in Dallas County, along with all of Adair and Madison counties, northeastern corner of Union County and northwestern portion of Clarke County. Republican Ray Sorensen of Greenfield has filed and there is no Democratic opponent. 

Of the state offices, there is only one June Primary race with Democrats Joel Miller and Eric Van Lancker running for Secretary of State. Republican incumbent Paul Pate is unopposed for the primary election. 

There is also a Republican primary for the Third Congressional District seat. Nicole Hasso, Gary Leffler and Zach Nunn will be vying for the Republican nomination in June to run against Democrat incumbent Cindy Axne. To see the full list of candidates, click the link below.
