U.S. Congresswoman Cindy Axne
President Joe Biden has recently passed a spending package of $13 billion that would provide Ukraine with emergency aid in its war against Russia, and an U.S. Congresswoman praises the piece of legislation.
Iowa’s Third Congressional District Representative Cindy Axne says the bill gives defense and humanitarian aid to Ukraine. She explains that the United States has a vested interest in stopping Russia and providing Ukraine with support.
“We are well tied to European countries, obviously, where Ukraine sits and next to Poland and others that are part of our NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) alliance is an issue as well. So we’ve got to do everything we can to support them. And unfortunately, that does come with a price tag.”
She adds the United States cannot stay isolated in this conflict and must protect democracy.
“It is very important for our country’s safety, for our trade, for our opportunity and quite honestly, for the world as well, that we support Ukraine.”
The spending package will need a signature from President Biden for it to go into effect.
Axne adds she serves on the financial services committee and expects to impose more sanctions on Russia and believes they will provide additional funding for Ukraine.
