The 2020 ABC winner Harry Ahrenholtz will present the 2021 recipient

A new annual event for a non-profit organization in Jefferson returns with a new date.

Jefferson Matters: A Main Street and Chamber Community will be hosting its second annual Community Appreciation Night on Tuesday, March 22nd at the Greene County High School auditorium. The event begins with appetizers served by the Ram Restaurant at 6:30pm, with the program to begin at 7. Speakers include Chuck Offenburger on the Greene County Diversity Project, Peg Raney with Why Not Us and The Centennial building, Jacque Andrew will give updates on the Greene County Early Learning Center building project and Jefferson City Administrator Mike Palmer will provide updates on the downtown building renovations, as well as other projects in the city.

Organization Team Co-Chair Susan Thiel says last year this event was held in June and she explains why they are pushing it up to this month.

“One of the reasons why we wanted to get it back into the spring is also, I think we will have a little bit better attendance, but also we want to kind of kick off the year with a bang, I think that the spring is a great time to kind of focus on all the wonderful coming on around Jefferson.”

Thiel notes the other highlight of the evening is announcing the 2021 Above and Beyond the Call (ABC) Award winner for their volunteerism efforts.

“So at the end of the event, Harry Ahrenholtz, which was our last year’s recipient, will be presenting the 2021 recipient with their award.”

The event is free and open to the public, and no pre-registration is necessary.
