After the $1,000 State of Iowa Teacher Retention Payment was announced, one local school district has approved another retention payment for other staff.
At their March meeting the Perry School Board approved a $1,000 payment to all active continuing contract staff who are not covered under the State of Iowa Teacher Retention Payment. Superintendent Clark Wicks says it was important to recognize everyone who made it possible to keep the doors open during the pandemic.
“We had a lot of people that were not included and our feeling, and the Board’s feeling, was that everybody was part of the solution to keep those doors open. So, it’s a big thank you to our staff for the job that they’ve done and we were able to use federal dollars to fill in the holes to make sure that everybody was included with the $1,000 bonus.”
Wicks tells Raccoon Valley Radio this payment will go to all those including bus drivers, food service staff and others who weren’t included in the State of Iowa retention payment as it was only for teachers.
“Anybody that had a Perry contract will be able to receive that $1,000. Again it’s a big thank you to everybody for the work that they’ve done covering people, to navigating through this whole process.”
The one-time $1,000 bonus was approved at the Perry School Board’s March 7th meeting.
