The 50th Iowa Shrine Bowl All-Star Football Game is still months away, but some of the players and coaches gathered last week at Za-Ga-Zig Temple in Altoona for a Recognition Dinner. Among those attending were Greene County head coach Caden Duncan and All-State linebacker Bradyn Smith, along with Smith’s parents, Jake and Annie. Duncan will serve as the South Offensive Coordinator for the July 23, 2022 contest inside the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. Smith is a linebacker on the South squad.

Coach Duncan talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about how he came to be a Shrine Bowl coach. “It was early in the season, in August, and Scott Heitland, the Dallas Center-Grimes coach, who is the South head coach, called and asked if I would be an assistant coach and told me what it all entailed because we have to live in Cedar Falls for a week. About halfway through the season he called back and asked if I wanted to be the Offensive Coordinator. It’s kind of taken off from there, working with the offensive coaching staff in picking our players, picking our schemes, and all that stuff. It’s been a really fun process so far!”

All proceeds from the Shrine Bowl go to Shriner’s Hospitals for children.
