One of the last hopeful rounds of winter weather is due to come through the Raccoon Valley Radio-listening area tonight through tomorrow.

Weatherology Meteorologist Michael Carrow says snowfall will begin around midnight tonight and continue through the evening commute on Thursday, bringing with it between 1-2 inches to the Greene, Dallas and Guthrie county area. He points out both the morning and evening commutes will be impacted on Thursday and there will be some stronger winds to contend with.

“Those winds won’t be terribly strong but they will be a little bit increased out of the north and northeast to the 10-20 miles per hour. So maybe some little bit of patchy blowing snow, especially in the open country, not out of the question. But thankfully not having to deal with any blizzard conditions out there.”

Carrow notes that behind the snowfall will be a brief cold snap for the next few days, with daytime highs in the 20s and overnight lows in the teens to single digits.

“An arctic high pressure system settles in and gives us some very chilly temperatures. In fact, overnight lows Friday night could approach that zero degree mark. So pretty close to the record low temperatures for this time of year. I think the record lows are right around the single digits below zero and we’re not going to be too far away from that for those overnight lows by Friday night.”

Jefferson residents are reminded of the City’s snow ordinance. Anytime there is an accumulation of one-half inch of snow, the snow ordinance goes into effect. This means parking on city streets, alleyways and city-owned off-street parking is prohibited until it stops snowing and the streets have been cleared from curb to curb. The Jefferson Police Department issued 14 snow parking citations from Monday’s snowfall event.
