Governor Kim Reynolds announced that Adair County would be a part of her Disaster Proclamation from the severe weather events on March 5th.
Emergency Management Coordinator For Adair and Guthrie Counties Bob Kempf explains that the southeast portion of Adair County got hit with baseball-sized hail, which caused a lot of damage.
“So we have a lot of homes that have broken windows, damaged siding, damaged roofs, it did damaged the school, the Orient-Macksburg School in Orient and in fact, they have not had classes the last couple of days, and they’re in the process of making sure, of course, the building is safe.”
Kempf says the proclamation activates programs like the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program along with the Disaster Case Management. The Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program provides up to $5,000 for repairs if the applicant meets the income requirement of 200 percent of the federal poverty level.
“It’s fairly easy, there’s a lot of information that you have to provide and of course, you know, a description of your damage, whether or not you have insurance.”
For those needing assistance and application instructions, those can be found at the Adair County Neighborhood Center in Greenfield or online at the Iowa Department of Human Services website.
