It is a busy month of March with the youth department at the Jefferson Public Library, with a couple of activities taking place this week.

Youth Services Librarian Stephanie Hall says this Thursday is a Mario WII Party from 4-5:30pm, which will include Mario Kart games, along with retro Super Mario Brothers. This event is for kids in grades second through fourth. The free program will be in the basement as well as the Children’s Department and door prizes will be given away as well. There is no registration.

Another activity takes place on Friday with an escape room in the library basement. The first-ever escape room is for high students in grades 9th-12th and it is based on the book “The Echo Room” by Parker Peevyhouse. Hall says the teens will be divided into teams and she explains some of the details of what the escape room includes.

“The escape room without giving it too much of it away is about two kids, high schoolers, that have been trapped in the same room and everybody replays. So kind of like a groundhog effect, but everyday is different and everyday they learn something new that they can add to try and get out.”

Hall adds this will be a timed event and it will be held from 5:30-7pm on Friday. The registration deadline is today. Both the Mario WII Party and the escape room are free.
