The Panorama Panthers girls basketball team will be competing in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Class 2A State Semifinal Round this morning from Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
Panorama toppled the Iowa City Regina Regals by a final score of 46-38 during the Class 2A quarterfinal round earlier this week to advance to the semifinal round. The Panthers girls will be taking on the defending Class 2A State Champions in the Dike-New Hartford Wolverines who are coming into the semifinal round after a 64-44 victory over the South Central Calhoun Titans.
Panorama is coming into the matchup with an overall record of 25-1 on the season and has currently won 12 games in a row since losing to the Nodaway Valley Wolverines back in the regular season. The Wolverines, who are 23-2, are currently on a five game win streak since losing to the Bishop-Garrigan Golden Bears.
One key player to look out for on each team during the matchup will include senior Payton Beckman for the Panthers as she is averaging just under 20 points a game while shooting an outstanding 82.7-percent from the free throw line. Also, Beckman is fifth in the state in all classes for three pointers made with 67.
For the Wolverines sophomore Payton Petersen is leading the way offensively with just shy of 18 points per night with a 66.6-percent field goal percentage which has her third in the state among all classes of girls basketball for that statistic.
The number four seed Panorama Panthers girls basketball team will be taking on the number one seed Dike-New Hartford Wolverines beginning at 10 a.m. today from Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines for the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union State Semifinal Round.
