Greene County went 9-13 in boys’ varsity basketball and finished fourth in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference at 8-6. Head coach Chris Nelson talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about areas he sees needing improvement, especially from those that will be freshmen and sophomores in 2022-23, starting with the current eighth grade class. “We have to shoot the ball better. They’re very competitive, but have to make sure they work together a little better as a group because they are so competitive, but they definitely have skills and talent.”
Nelson talked about the current freshmen class and said ending with five straight wins was certainly a positive. “I thought they had a really good year. Shooting and ball handling will go a long ways for us because we’re not going to be gifted, unfortunately, with a lot of height, so we’ve got to take care of the ball, which will help us pass and shoot better.”
Two starters return in next year seniors Richard Daugherty and Jesse Miller. Daugherty, a shooting guard, led the team in scoring, and Miller represents the only real height at 6′ 6″. Both scored in double figures during the recently completed season.
