The Guthrie Center School District recently increased their pay for substitute teachers.

At the last meeting, the Guthrie Center School Board approved to increase substitute teachers’ pay to $130 per day and long-term substitutes who stay in the same classroom will earn $180 beginning on the 11th day. Superintendent Dennis McClain tells Raccoon Valley Radio why this decision was made.

Getting subs is always tough and so with the idea of maybe increasing the pay for a little bit, we haven’t increased it for several years. We know districts around us are doing that. So in order to stay competitive with some of those districts, we did increase our rates beginning next year.”

This was approved by both the Adair-Casey and Guthrie Center’s School Boards in the joint meeting in February.
