Dallas Center – Grimes boys basketball will be looking to get to the state tournament for the second consecutive year tonight, when they play in the class 3A Substate 6 championship game against the Newton Cardinals at Ankeny Centennial High School. DCG enters with a 18-5 record and Newton comes in with a 13-10 mark.
DCG is coming off of a 56-38 win over Nevada on Thursday, and Newton is coming off of an impressive upset 55-51 over Ballard.
These two Little Hawkeye Conference foes will be meeting for the third time this season, with DCG winning by 27 and 14 in the first two matchups. DCG has won four straight in the series and 9 of 10 overall, but will be in for an interesting challenge against a Newton team that has shown to be a giant killer this year.
Balance has been key for the Mustangs in the first two matchups against Newton, as they got double figure scoring from seniors Cole Glasgow, Bo Huston, and Jackson Jones in both matchups. Defense was also strong in both matchups, as DCG was able to hold the Cardinals below their season average as well.
The game will be broadcast over the airwaves tonight on 943, 997, and AM 1310 KDLS, raccoonvalleyradio.com, and the KDLS app. Tip time will be at 7 o’clock with pregame coverage to begin around 6:40.
