Carter Morton, a second year University of Northern Iowa men’s track & field athlete from Jefferson is taking part in the Missouri Valley Conference 2022 Indoor Track & Field Championships at Gately Park in Chicago. It started Sunday and concludes today.
On Sunday’s first day, Morton was in the first four events of the seven event heptathlon. He’s in third place going into today’s final day. He was fifth in the 60 meter dash (802 points), fifth in the long jump (778 points), sixth in the shot put (565 points) and second in the high jump (785 points) for a one day total of 2,930, which leads the five UNI heptathletes, and trails only a pair of Illinois State Redbirds.
In addition, the 2020 Greene County High School graduate, was in the open long jump Sunday and placed twelfth among 17 jumpers with a best effort of 22-10-3/4.” In addition to completing the last three heptathlon events today, Morton is set to be in the open high jump.
