The Iowa House recently passed House File 2416, and one local lawmaker talks about what it aims to do.

Iowa House Representative for District 19 Carter Nordman says that House File 2416 looks to protect female sports in Iowa. Nordman says over the recent years there has been more work to keep female sports on an equal playing field and House File 2416 would aim to make athletes able to participate in boys or girls sports depending on what their birth certificate says.

“We have seen some instances around the nation where a biological male, who is born faster, stronger, usually bigger than a biological female, are competing in female sports at an unfair advantage. So, we want to make sure that girls have an equal playing field and are not playing against somebody who biologically was born with advantages.”

Nordman tells Raccoon Valley Radio it was passed out of the Iowa House and has moved to the Senate where if passed it would go before Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds.

“Very Important that we are protecting girls’ sports in the State of Iowa.”
