Iowa State University freshman Danielle Hoyle placed 11th among 18 competitors Friday afternoon in the 20 lbs. weight throw for women at the Big 12 Track & Field Indoor Championships. The two-day meet concludes today inside the Lied Recreation Center on the ISU Campus in Ames. Her best toss was 18.08 meters (59′ 10-1/4″), a personal best. Her PR came on her first throw. Hoyle fouled on her second attempt and she again topped 59 feet with her third and final toss of 59’2-3/4″. Only the top nine throwers advanced to the finals.

Hoyle is new to the 20 lbs. weight throw, and a novice in track & field throwing at all. She threw competitively in high school last year at Paton-Churdan for the first time and won the State title in the Class 1A discus throw. She had not ever picked up the 20 lbs. weight until walking onto the track & field team at the start of this academic year.

University of Northern Iowa second year athlete Carter Morton from Jefferson competes in the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships tomorrow and Monday at Gately Park in Chicago. He’s scheduled for the decathlon (7 events) and also the open pole vault, high jump, and long jump.
