As the current school year enters the final few months, the newest round of negotiations is underway for next school year with the Greene County School District.

The Greene County Education Association made its initial offer to the school board at their February 16th meeting to increase the base salary of $2,190 to $34,950 for a total percentage increase of 7.65-percent. The total cost to the district, including insurance, would be $626,000.

The Greene County School Board met in special session this past Tuesday with its initial offer of freezing the base salary at $32,760, but allowing for step and lane increases, for a total percentage increase of 2.2-percent. The total cost to the district, including insurance, would be $181,000.

The two sides will now begin negotiations, with the next public session to take place on March 2nd at 4:30pm in the boardroom at the middle school. Last year, the negotiated agreement was a 2.99-percent overall package increase for a total cost of $244,644.
