Schools from across the area visited Perry High School over the weekend to take part in the annual band olympics.

Perry High School Band Director Blaine Schmidt says ten schools, which included Perry, participated in the band olympics on Saturday. Schmidt explains more about how the annual event takes place which sees students playing solo or ensemble performances.

“There is 17 rooms set up around the high school and they go in and play for the judges, the judges get some time to give some feedback and then the judges give them a rating and they select like the top five students in each category.”

Schmidt tells Raccoon Valley Radio there was also an award ceremony which saw students receiving medals along with other awards being given out. Schmidt says it was good to be a part of the annual event.

“For a lot of these schools they’ve been coming forever and this is like a huge event for them and they take it super seriously and it’s really awesome, their kids are all excited and there’s just a lot of energy all around the school.”

Schmidt says it was a good feeling to see so many people participating in the event over the weekend and that he is thankful for all those who help make the event possible.
