The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office has recently received many complaints about reckless driving around the school districts in Guthrie County.

Iowa State Patrol District 4 Resource Officer Shelby McCreedy says the complaints started to flood in not even a month into the school year.

“You know students driving excessive speeds, making bad passes, drag racing down Highway 25, so we felt the need to do the project sooner rather than later.”

McCreedy says the 13 hour project that was held last week focused on Highways  141, 144, 4, 25 and commuter traffic and stopped motorists violating traffic laws. According to the Iowa State Patrol they conducted a total of 79 traffic stops, 35 citations and 24 of those were for excessive speed, one narcotics arrest and one warrant arrest. McCreedy adds that not all traffic stops were  students.
