As lawmakers continue to meet in the Iowa Capitol, biofuels are making their way into the conversation.
Iowa House Representative for District 19 Carter Nordman says House File 2128 was passed in the House with bipartisan support. Nordman says this bill was a work in progress last year but didn’t make it through the session.
“The whole point of the bill is to promote Iowa biofuels. As we all know E-15 is the main component of this bill, it’s cheaper, it’s cleaner and it’s made right here in Iowa and we want to make sure that we are promoting that especially as things continue to progress at the federal level.”
Nordman tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the bill aims to increase access to E-15 fuel by ensuring that gas stations that can offer the fuel do so and for those who cannot Nordman says there are waivers that can be applied for which would exempt them from offering E-15.
“We wanted to make sure that we protected mom and pop gas stations and wanted to ensure that we were protecting small businesses.”
