The Ten Squared Women of Guthrie County recently made a large contribution to help restore a historic building in Guthrie Center.
The Guthrie Center Revitalization Group received $10,400 from the Ten Squared Women group for renovations to the Williams Building. Board Member Terry Laughery says the three story building has been around Guthrie Center for many years.
“At one time it was a doctor’s office or a little hospital, way, way before, before my time. But it’s just been a nice building and had some businesses downstairs that had the old Cafe in it. When I was growing up, it just had a lot of different businesses in it, and it’s just a building that kind of needed to be repaired.”
Laughery explains that the money from the Ten Squared Women will be used to install new windows and improve the upstairs of the building. He describes what they want to do with the facility.
“I think we’re going to put it in the upper level housing, downtown housing, but we just don’t know which avenue fits what we kind of what we need for a town, if we need apartments or if we need like a condos for people to buy and then they have downtown access and living right there on the street.”
Laughery says they are taking their time and making sure everything is right and don’t have an expected completion date.
