Wrestlers from the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area made an impression on day one at the Iowa High School State Tournament inside Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. In Class 3A, 10 of the 17 area wrestlers that entered round one advanced to today’s quarterfinals. In 2A, six of 13 are in the quarterfinals, and in 1A, six of 15 advanced. On the consolation side of the bracket, 2A and 3A qualifiers from our area each went 5-2 in the first consolation round, and 1A wrestlers went 3-6.

Waukee Northwest has eight 3A quarter finalists with four others in the consolations. Waukee has both its entries in the quarterfinals, and Dallas Center-Grimes has two still going in the consolation second round.

In 2A, all six Winterset wrestlers are still in the tournament with three on each side of the bracket. Greene County has all three still going with two on the championship side. Both ADM wrestlers are still going with one on the championship side and the other on the consolation side. Perry and Woodward-Granger each had their one qualifier eliminated from further competition.

In 1A, ACGC’s lone entry is in the quarterfinals today with two Earlham wrestlers still going, one on each side of the bracket. Nodaway Valley had one quarter finalist, with one left on the consolation side, and Van Meter has one consolation wrestler. Ogden has two in the quarter finals, and two still going from Panorama, one in the quarters and one in the consolations.

Coverage begins at 8:30 a.m. with play-by-play on all three Raccoon Valley Radio stations and streaming on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Class 2A wrestlers go first, followed by 3A with second consolation rounds in both. At 2:30 p.m., it’s Class 1A for quarter finals and second consolation round. The semifinals and third consolation round matches will be later today and tonight.
