A trio of Raccoon Valley Radio area wrestlers are in the Class 1A semifinals tonight inside Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Extensive play-by-play continues tonight at 7:30 p.m. with the Class 3A semifinals and third consolation round followed by Class 1A finals and third round consolation matches.

Teagan Slaybaugh of ACGC at 113 pounds, Kolton Munson of Ogden, also at 113, and Elliot Cooney of Nodaway Valley at 132 lbs. are all in the semifinals and all are guaranteed to finish somewhere between first and sixth in their respective weight classes.

Slaybaugh was behind, then pinned Easton Schlabaugh of Highland (Riverside) in 4:42 in the quarterfinals, while Munson won in sudden victory 6-4 over Cael Judish of Sumner-Fredericksberg. Cooney was a 4-2 winner in the quarters vs. Charlie Veit of East Sac County.

Area 1A wrestlers still alive on the consolation bracket are Ogden’s Kale Munson (145 lbs.) and Cooper Anderson of Panorama at 220 lbs. They’ll wrestle tonight in the third consolation round and a win there means they could still finish as high as third place, while a loss puts them in tomorrow’s seventh place match.
