A local law enforcement agency recently announced its partnership with the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division.
The Perry Police Department is participating in the I-PLEDGE program which aims to keep tobacco, alternative nicotine and vapor products out of the hands of those who are underage. Since the program began in 2000 the state’s tobacco compliance rate has grown to 90-percent.
Perry officers recently conducted compliance checks at local establishments as part of the I-PLEDGE program where underage customers, under the supervision of law enforcement, entered establishments and attempted to purchase these tobacco, alternative nicotine and vapor products and two businesses were found to not be in compliance.
The criminal penalties for selling tobacco, alternative nicotine and vapor products to a minor include a $135 fine for the first offense, $325 for the second offense and $645 for the third offense and those after that.
