Greene County area youngsters still have time to sign up for a program that is a precursor to the 4-H program.
Clover Kids is for children in first through third grade and an introductory session will be held on Monday, February 21st, as this is a no school day for both Greene County and Paton-Churdan school districts. The first opportunity will be at the Churdan Public Library from 9-10:30am, and the other two sessions will be at Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds, including 1-2:30pm and 3-4:30pm.
Greene County ISU Extension Director Lori Mannel talks about the importance that the Clover Kids program has on those interested in joining 4-H when they become fourth graders.
“It really is important and boy has it taken off. Kids are going to get a taste of 4-H, so with that, we expose them to all different kinds of 4-H. They may not realize it, but they’re having fun, but they’re going to learn quite a bit too, so that’s the whole point.”
The official deadline to sign up for this year’s Clover Kids program is May 15th with a $15 enrollment fee. Call the Extension office in Jefferson at 515-386-2138 or stop by to register.
