Guthrie County residents voted to build a new jail back in 2020 and officials say they’re seeing major progress.
Sheriff Marty Arganbright explains he is around the project everyday and tells Raccoon Valley Radio once the roof was put on the new jail that has led to many projects inside the building which have either started and are finished..
“They’re painting inside, finishing HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning). They’ve done a lot of electrical work and they’ll be hanging ceiling tile. There’s a lot more left to do. I mean, every security door has to have the locking system put into it. But there’s a lot, a lot of things going on, but there’s a lot yet to do.”
Arganbright says their current jail is full and they need to be in the new facility as soon as possible. He states that he wasn’t sure on a date of completion but other officials believe the estimated date of completion will be sometime this May.
